Tonsillectomy in adu: Tonsillectomies in adults have about the same amount of bleeding as the children. They are definitely more painful. You will lose a minimum of 8 to ten pounds. Biggest problem post op is the pain. You will need to be medicated in order to get through the pain. Good luck! feel better.

See own doc: Decisions on whether you need surgical intervention for a chronic problem should not be coming fro an er doc. You need to discuss this with a primary care doctor or with an ENT doctor for your particular case of recurrent throat infections. While the surgery is generally safe, there can always be complications from bleeding, infection, anesthesia. That's why you need to talk to your personal doc!

Won't end strep: Tonsil removal does not end your risk of contracting strep throat. It can make the illness less intense when it happens but there are plenty of tissues left behind that can become infected. You should consult with your primary care doc and an ENT before such a procedure. There are reasons pro & con and a review of your case sounds appropriate. In well trained hands this is quite safe.
