There : There are a few different things that could be going on here: - chronic/recurrent bacterial infections with non-strep bacteria - viral infections (such as mono) - tonsilliths - also known as "tonsil stones" these are little pieces of food that become lodged in the folds of the tonsil. Like an oyster, the tonsil becomes irritated and coats these pieces in mucus until the pop out on their own (those are the "white spots"). They can sometimes cause soreness and bad breath. If this continues to be a chronic problem, you may want to see an otolaryngologist (ear, nose and throat doctor) for a more in-depth exam, throat cultures, and to possibly consider having your tonsils removed if other therapies are not working.
