Uncertain: not necessarily as the tonsils are good lymphoid protective glands. I think you need to have a careful immunologic evaluation and discuss this with your physician since you have recurrent streptococcus infections. I'm not certain why the adenoids were removed, but the tonsils not as is either removed together.

Some basics: Tonsil removal does not stop strep throat infections but would decrease the intensity when/if you have them. Most would consider removal with 5-8 strep/yr documented by testing. In today's insurance regulated world they would first need to pre-approve it to pay for it. If you have sleep apnea or ever have a tonsil abscess they are more likely to approve the surgery. Discuss it with your doc.
