Dogs fear: Avoid contact with them initially and with some support from friends, try to figure out why you might have this fear (trauma, etc.) and when you're ready, slowly re-acclimate to them. Maybe going to a dog park or find your best friend's dog that you know is sweet and nice, nothing to be scared of. Good luck. Perhaps contact therapy dogs international to get exposure to well behaved dogs initially.

Fear: Perhaps you were once bitten of frieghtened by a dog or for some other reason you have developed an overriding fear. Ask a friend who has a cuddly small dog to help you de-condition your fear by gradual exposure to the dog, make sure the dog is on a lease and ask your friend what treats the dog likes. Approach slowly, bending down, pat under his chin and slowly give a treat. Practice often.

CBT for some works: In contrast to other forms of psychotherapy, cognitive therapy is usually more focused on the present, more time-limited, and more problem-solving oriented. In addition, patients learn specific skills that they can use for the rest of their lives. These skills involve identifying distorted thinking, modifying beliefs, relating to others in different ways, and changing behaviors.
