Don't ask why: This clearly troubles you, and it would be great if you could address and overcome it -- life's hard enough without senseless fears. Today's therapists will help you learn new behaviors and ways of thinking rather than trying to find an explanation that will probably always be elusive. In fact, you should avoid someone who urges you to look backward, try to remember forgotten trauma, or whatever.

Talk w/therapist: Without talking with you, any guess on my part would only be a guess. However, people's fears usually do start somewhere, even if sometimes based in misunderstandings or assumptions. A competent psychologist could explore your concerns with you, and see what declares itself. I disagree with dr. Friedlander's views on addressing the past, as leaving it out would be unrealistic.
