PID treatment: Outpatient therapy of pid usually involves a single parenteral (intramuscular) dose of a third-generation cephalosporin (ceftriaxone) plus a two-week course of Doxycycline or azithromycin. Azithromycin is equally as effective as Doxycycline and is easier to tolerate, due to less frequent dosing. You should be taking one gram of Azithromycin weekly for two weeks.
