Treat the fever: There are two main things to consider here - how many days has the fever lasted? (If over 5 days, please see your doctor). Also, how is your child's behavior when you treat the fever? If your child is lethargic and ill appearing, please see your doctor. If your child is still active and playful and the fever passes before 5 days, then it was likely a virus.

Lots of reasons: There are a multitude of causes of fever (over 101) in children. If the elevated temperature has persisted for more than 2-3 days, your child should be evaluated by his pediatrician to determine the cause.
