Not always: Ask both your orthodontist and general dentist to check for you on a regular basis. Unfortunately, many patients think they do not need to have a general dentist examine them and take x-rays routinely during the entire course of orthodontic treatment. A good orthodontist should monitor this and remind patients to see their regular dentist on a routine basis.

Yes: X-rays- examination- probing and even having your orthodontist remove the braces can all help to see if cavities are present-good oral hygiene will prevent cavities.

Perhaps: Call your Orthodontist to schedule an examination. If necessary, your Orthodontist will refer you to your General Dentist for specific treatment.
