All of them: All carious lesions need to be restored before ortho care is begun. Very difficult to restore broken down teeth with brackets and wires in place.

Yes, for 2 reasons: First, once the braces are on, they tend to prevent us both clinically ; radiographically from seeing them. If that occurs, the cavities will grow in size ; be more of a problem later on, perhaps even requiring root canal therapy. Secondly, it makes it difficult or impossible to fill properly in ; around the braces. We often require the orthodontist remove brackets, bands, wires to fill the teeth.

Absolutely: Before moving teeth it is very important that your math be infection-free. That means no hard or soft tissue infections. Cavities should be treated, and gums made as healthy as possible before attempting tooth movement. Please see your dentist and your orthodontist to coordinate any pre-braces treatment that may be required.
