Family Medicine: How about just starting at your family doctor's office and not at a psychiatrist. Most anxiety can be dealt with naturally with learning new responses to your feelings, practicing breathing, exercising. You do not necessarily have to have pills to treat your problem. Not really: What defines if something is a disorder or a condition that requires treatment is if it changes your ability to function. If you can still do your job, go to school, have healthy relationships, then your anxiety may not be at the level to require treatment. Should you decide that the anxiety is having a negative effect on your life then you might want to reconsider getting medical treatment.
