Depends: It depends on what is causing the ankle pain. If it is a mild sprain, then it may heal in 2-3 weeks. If it is something more serious it may need 1-2 months of rest. It is best to have it checked out and then a more educated guess would be possible. It is always a good idea to not run as long as your ankle hurts when simply walking.

Depends how long: You should see a specialist if your ankle pain persists for more than 1-2 weeks and is due to trauma. Ankle pain is not normal and should be evaluated.
