Maybe: I had maxillary impacted cuspids pulled into function orthodontically, and frankly really don't remember any discomfort.

It May Depend: Whether or not and how much if any discomfort you may have from exposing and ligating or bonding an impacted tooth to move it into position may depend upon the location and position of the tooth. Exposure of a tooth in the palate (roof of the mouth) may be more uncomfortable than exposure of a tooth on the labial (cheek or lip side) of the mouth. Your mouth will be numb during the surgery.

Alternative?: If you have impacted tooth you probably have many other occlusal disharmonies. Orthodontic treatment is more achy and annoying than painful. Surgery to expose impacted tooth done under local anesthesia and will be sore for a few days after. Moving impacted tooth no different than other teeth. See orthodontic specialist for overall treatment plan.
