Splint: The first thing i recommend when i suspect someone has carpal tunnel is the use of a splint, that holds the hand straight on the wrist - wrist support or neutral position splint. Worn at night for sleep, it will often stop people from waking up with wrist pain. Naproxen or Ibuprofen might also help; don't take them for more than a few days, and don't take them if they cause stomach pain.

Not so fast: First off wrist pain per se is not a typical symptom of carpal tunnel. So first we need to confirm the diagnosis. Many patients present thinking they have carpal tunnel because that is such a prevalent diagnosis, when in fact they have other symptomatic conditions. As to wrist pain, need more detail to be of help. Acute/chronic? Trauma related? Where on the wrist? What have you tried? Etc..
