Back to work: Usually after removing a toenail it is advised that the patient stay off the foot, and elevate it, to prvent bleeding and throbbing. If you can elevate your foot at work, and avoid standing and walking, it should be ok.

Ingrown toenail: There are a few things you can do to help alleviate pain. These include icing the area and keeping it elevated after surgery. Also you will want to take an NSAID like Ibuprofen to help with swelling. Usually the first day it is best to rest and relax and afterwards you can return to work but i would recommend using an open toed shoe so that you don't experience too much discomfort.

Give it a break: Take the day off to rest and elevate your foot. You may develop pain if you are walking on it too much too soon. You may have a bandage and may need to have open toed shoes to accommodate the bandage. Rest and elevate your foot the first day.
