Teeth Whitening: Absolutely! in fact, invisalign tooth aligners are excellent bleaching trays. You can either purchase dental bleach from your dentist, or at your local pharmacy. However, i would urge you to follow the instructions on the packaging (exactly!) and try to find a bleach that has fda approval. Dental bleach is a product that should not be used in a "more is better" mode.

After: We would suggest having it done once the invisalign treatment has be completed.

Teeth Whitening: It is possible to whiten your teeth while you are still undergoing Invisalign treatment, however, if you have attachments – small pieces of composite tooth colored resin that helps the aligners fit better – it is better to wait until the attachments are removed because whitening would be uneven on some of your teeth. A plus side is that you could use your aligners for a whitening tray.

Do it after: Your teeth are being moved, you might have attachments on your teeth for your invisalign to work and the gum coverage of teeth as well as tooth surfaces change. You should be wearing those trays all the time anyways and the color of your teeth wouldn't show through as much. So, all being said, resist the urge and do it after.

Tooth Whitening: Tooth whitening often causes some mild to moderate tooth sensitivity, especially when first started. When teeth are moved Orthodontically there is even a greater chance of sensitivity. More importantly, any restorative treatment including tooth whitening should be considered after Orthodontic treatment completed. Think of it as picking the paint shade of a room after you choose your furniture.

Better after: Viscosity of whitening gel can actually interfere with activity of the trays, making straightening marginally less effective. If you have attachments on the teeth, the tooth enamel under the attachment will not bleach, leaving you with spots when the attachments are removed. Invisalign retainers are sturdier, and make ideal bleaching trays. Wait until after.
