Fast, or slow: The healing depends on what it is healing from. If you already had treatment to address disease (such as gum disease) or condition (such as tooth extraction), gums rapidly start healing. It is often some swelling for a day or two, then takes only a few days to witness signs of wound closure. However, if your body is compromised (poor nutrition, or poor systemic health) healing will be slower.
