See dentist: See your dentist for 4 - 6 month check-ups , and cleanings. Especially important for the older orthodontis patients. Good luck.

Sunglasses: Stainless steel shines when clean. Make sure to clean between the braces and the gum line. Make sure to clean between teeth. Consider using dental disclosing tablets. Ask your orthodontic specialist for orthodontic cleaning instructions and to rate your efforts.

Agreed! Stainless steel shines when clean! But most brackets placed in affluent areas are clear and mimic the tooth color. That's when it gets difficult!!

So we go back to the concept of ask your Specialist Orthodontist or treating General Dentist to rate your oral hygiene effort at each and every visit.

Hard to keep clean!: If most people can't tell if their natural teeth are clean... ; natural teeth have only chewing surfaces, inside and outside gum/tooth interfaces ; the approximating walls "between the teeth" that need cleaning, how can they be expected to know if the five additional surfaces and the retaining wires that braces present are clean? Just brush floss and proxabrush daily and they will be "clean".

If you have braces you should ask the dentist the next time you see him or better at your next cleaning how your gums look. Lots of people brush and floss but still don't clean the critters off the teeth. If the gums bleed they are infected. Clean gums don't bleed unless you have serious systemic health problems
