Why are mouthwash and floss good for your dental hygiene?

Dental Hygiene: The correct mechanical action of flossing, which removes plaque and food products from between the teeth, and brushing which removes plaque from your teeth and your tongue, reduces the amount of bacteria which produce byproducts that cause tooth decay and bad breath. Over the counter mouth rinses may supplement the benefits of proper brushing and flossing.

Better plaque remova: Floss gets in where a brush can not to remove plaque in between teeth. Not all mouthwashes would be effective, ask your dentist or hygenist to recommend one that would be effective for you.

Floss and Mouthwash: The mechanical scrubing of your teeth is most important when cleaning your teeth daily. Floss which is used to scrub the in between surfaces of teeth is much more important than mouthwash. Mouthwash helps most when used in conjunction with brushing and flossing. Mouthwash alone is useless in warding off dental disease.

Mouths are dirty: Sorry to say our mouths are dirty, they are filled with bacteria that secrete a sticky glue that anchors them to the teeth and gums. As this colony grows fast it become polluted with their excretory waste which is toxic and acidic. Brushing disturbs the plaque, floss gets to places that the brush can not reach, and the mouth rinse kills the germs that it reaches reducing numbers temporarily.
