Bleaching teeth: Whitening toothpastes do not have an active ingredient to whiten teeth. They are more abrasive, so they will remove superficial stains- and some tooth structure. Since the braces cover some of the tooth structure, you run the risk of having the braces removed and seeing different shades of tooth color. I would suggest that you avoid these toothpastes while in braces.

Would not: while most whitening toothpaste is very mild, you may cause a shade difference between the exposed tooth and the part covered by the braces. I would wait until after the braces come off and ask your orthodontist about using your retainer as a tray to employ professional grade whitening (we sell this for only an extra $25 after braces)
