Anxiety ; panic: It sounds like your doctor is doing a thorough evaluation of your problems first. Many kinds of physical symptoms are common with panic disorder, which can worsen if untreated. "antivan" [ativan] is not the best long-term answer though. You need to also see a psychiatrist for evaluation. Ssri's are very helpful both in overcoming panic attacks and depression. Cognitive therapy is important also.

Some psychiatrists are able to do telepsychiatry evaluations, which could be useful if your symptoms make you agoraphobic or house-bound. In our city there is one who makes house calls. You can ask.

Apart from Meds...: While waiting 2 see GI doc, suggest doing some reading re panic/anxiety: http://bit.Ly/12mldds + consider finding clinical psychologist who's anxiety specialist -someone who (a) uses behavioral ; cognitive-behavioral techniques, esp. 2help u build skills 2gain control of anxiety/panic; (b) uses experiential ; mindfulness techniques 2help u identify ; experience ur emotions as u're feeling them.

Great suggestions, Dr. Adelstein. I've noticed over the years that the last thing some with anxiety complaints want to experience, is their emotions -- yet this is absolutely necessary for healing.
