Blue: It takes a few minutes before oxygen rich blood is pumped through the system. Also the baby may have been cold at birth.

Normal pattern: In the womb the fetus must extract oxygen from the mother through the placenta. During pregnancy the blood oxygen content of the fetus is lower than moms, to the point the newborn is always going to appear blue initially. After the baby begins to breathe air directly, the oxygen level climbs and by 5-10 minutes their blood oxygen content (and color) will be normal.
