Interstitial disease: Protein in the urine represents glomerular damage which is a specific type of damage. Sugar in the urine may be from high blood sugar or dysfunction of the tubules. Interstitial kidney disease can be a problem of the blood vessels or of the tissues besides the filtering part of the kidneys. Uric acid is said to play a role in kidney disease although the mechanism is not well defined.
