Swollen Veins Hurt!: Varicose veins occur when the valves fail and gravity takes over. This causes the veins in the lower legs and feet to swell. This can cause pain and burning. If theses veins are close to the surface you will see them but they can also be deep and hidden. Try wearing compression stockings for relief or see a vascular surgeon if the pain worsens.

Venous insufficiency: You likely have a combination of venous insufficiency - where te saphenous veins aren't working - and varicose veins which are below the surface of your skin. These are veins which don't circulate blood properly. They are still varicose even if you can't see them at the skin surface. Check miamibeachvein.Com or phlebology.Org to learn more.
