V V Treatment: The gold standard for the treatment of varicose veins is to have a venous duplex ultrasound which will look at the valves in the superficial system of veins to see if they work. Malfunctioning (refluxing) valves will lead to varicose veins. Treating the varicose veins first involves sealing the leaking valves by a closure procedure followed by treating the V V's by either sclerotherapy or removal.
