I had a hysterectomy done last week and i'm anemic. i have very little energy. how soon will taking iron vitamins start to work?

Anemia: Iron deficiency anemia is the #1 anemia in women. Iron three times a day is need while anemic and for 3 months after hemoglobin is back to normal, then take it once a day. Take a stool softener , iron cause sconstipation. Md usually will check CBC in 1-2 weeks with reticulocyte count, your hg should be going up. So iron should start working quick. If feeling too weak, call your doctor.

Agree with Dr. I: Iron deficiency can be corrected with intravenous iron. One treatment is generally sufficient to correct the iron deficiency. It will still take the body some time to make hemoglobin from the iron. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated.
