Melanonychia: Melanonychia is a brown-to-black line within the nail, frequently seen in patients with darker skin and often on multiple nails. It can be seen in certain syndromes or due to medications. Rarely, it can be a melanoma of the nail and so needs evaluation by a dermatologist. Probably not related to nail changes of anemia (such as koilonychia).

Unsure: Usually benign. Vertical nail ridges are often caused by aging. Other causes include anemia, splinter hemorrhages, or conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, trachyonchia or peripheral vascular disease.
