What kind of dr. takes care of sciated nerve pain?

There are many: Generally it is good to start with your primary care physician who may evaluate the signs and symptoms and determine if indeed it is sciatica or something more serious. The pcp may initiate medications and physical therapy. They may also start the imaging process with MRI scans. If there is a herniated disc or stenosis they may refer you to a spine specialist (orthopedic or neurosurgery).

Spine surgeons: Your family doctor may feel comfortable with the initial work-up and treatment. If your symptoms persist, several specialists assist with conservative care including physiatrists and pain management physicians. If the pain persists, spine surgeons ( orthopaedic or neurosurgery ) are the specialists that manage sciatica. Check out spine-health.Com. Good luck.
