On bupropion & pristiq (desvenlafaxine) for dep/ social anxiety. is therapy alone or meds/therapy combo the best route? quit job cuz anxiety severe. isolating & crying

Usually both: The medications help with the chemical component of anxiety, but without psychological therapy, they will have less value. Coping skills are very important to learn.

Combination: Research shows that results are better when psychotherapy is combined with medications -- in other words, medications alone will not give as good a benefit as combined treatment. Please ask your psychiatrist for therapy referrals, if s/he does not provide psychotherapy. If considering suicide, call your psychiatrist today. If in suicidal crisis you can also be seen in an er.
