Zoloft (sertraline): Like most antidepressants, zoloft (sertraline) requires at least 4-6 weeks to show effectiveness. You may need a higher dose than the 50mg you're now taking. Doctors usually titrate the dose gradually, allowing your body to become accustomed to it. Please work with your doctor to obtain symptom relief. Psychotherapy is also an important part of treating anxiety and depression.

Maybe never: The "official" answer would be 8-12 weeks. The better answer with respect to depression is possibly never. For the majority of people with depression, the effects of antidepressants are indistinguishable from placebo. It is more likely to help with anxiety (although it may make you more anxious, temporarily, before it helps). For mild depression + anxiety, consider psychotherapy, not pills, .
