OTC pain meds..: ... Will help, but only for so long. The longer you wait, the worse and more expensive the treatment will get. If you are infected, then the tooth will need root canal therapy and a crown if it can be saved. By waiting, the tooth will decay more, it will be extracted, and an implant/post/crown will cost more than restoring it now. See if your dentist offers a payment plan.

Advil (ibuprofen) - temp relief: You can always look for low cost dental services in your area. Dental schools are a great source as well as the local county hospital emergent care departments. You can get the care you need and if there is an infection get the proper medications to keep you healthy and out of pain.
