Depends on condition: There is no age limit on having a hip fracture repaired safely. It has more to do with physiologic conditioning than chronological age. Some are very fit at 98! to leave a badly fractured hip unrepaired usually condemns a patient to non-weight bearing which can lead to all kinds of problems such as bed sores, blood clots, pneumonia, etc. The health-care team must optimize all aspects of care.

Functional status?: One needs to look at the whole person and weigh the risks and benefits for a procedure. If the perosn has been funcitonal and healthy, then there should be no reason to deny a procedure that will add quality to their life. However if the person is limitted functionally and cogntively, the recivery and potential benefit may not be worth the risk.
