A member asked:

With acromegaly, what is done to block the growth hormone?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A few options: Many people with acromegaly have a tumor of their pituitary gland, and thus benefit from surgery as part of their treatment. Medications to assist in the management are also available, either to help decrease the production of excess growth hormone (octreotide, for ex.) or to block its effects (pegvisomant). This can be a serious problem, and something one should see a specialist for.
