Not effective: Antibiotics treat different types of bacteria. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) does not kill many of the bacteria that can cause dental abscess. It would be better to call your dentist for a prescription. This way you take the risks of side effects but it probably not work.

Tooth pain: Usually caused by infection. Bacterium is the wrong antibiotic to treat an infected tooth. Antibiotic alone will not cure tooth, only manage the symptoms. You will need appropriate Dental care. Please see Dentist for evaluation and appropriate treatment/medication.
