Ulrasound will tell: Though a drop in HCG is a worrisome sign, at this point in pregnancy, ultrasound will give a more accurate answer.

relax: Hcg drops after 9 weeks and it is in a healthy range. Spotting in first trimester is normal and rarely associated with problems. The scan rules out an ectopic pregnancy and an exam would have ruled out cervical polyps.
