Sphenoid sinusitis: Hello, the sphenoid sinus is often times referred to as the silent sinus. It sits in the most posterior part of the nasal cavity. It may cause posterior cephalic pain in the occipital area. An infection in this area can cause more PND and cough since it is closest to the nasopharynx. The internal carotid and optic nerves are in close proximity. It's rare that these two structures are involved.
