Veneers: If the margin of the veneer is discoloring or the veneer is darkening because the underlying tooth is getting darker then it is time to think about replacing them. That is based on how they look. If they are coming off then they are failing and need to be replaced. See a dentist who is competent in veneers.

Stain at margins: veneers fail at their margin like any other restoration in the mouth. In other word they can get cavities underneath them. The cavity appears as dark stain at the edge of the veneer.

Veneers failures: the most common are unsatisfactory aesthetic results, structural damage, loss of retention, and dental decay.

Veneer replacement: Marginal integrity alone isn't a good indicator. Your own dentist should monitor the integrity of your existing crowns. This requires clinical exam, x-rays & periodontal probing. You should not rely on your own evaluation regarding replacement of existing crowns. See your dentist every 6 months for a routine check-up & evaluation & if you're not happy with something about your veneers, discuss it

Gray margins: If the interface of the veneer with the tooth(margin) becomes stained or gray discoloration creeps in under the veneer it most likely needs to be replaced or in some cases rebounded. Other reasons may be cracked or severely chipped veneers. Or simply if you want a nicer look(whiter teeth)

Varies: The first sign you may notice is dark edges where the tooth and veneer meet and/or the edge (margin) of the veneer shows against the tooth underneath because the tissue level has lowered to expose the margin. If the discoloration is found to be an open area, sometimes it can be repaired.Wearing and chipping may be noted. If you want to cover exposed tooth (root) then new ones needed.Dentist checks.
