Veneer technique: The most widely used technique for placing porcelain veneers involves some tooth preparation. Your teeth are prepared by removing a small amount of the front surface of the tooth (about 0.3 to 0.5 millimeter - the thickness of a fingernail) to allow space for the porcelain. Then the dentist takes an impression of your teeth. This impression is used by the laboratory technician creating your veneer.

Veneers: Improved esthetics and function. It is an irreversible procedure with some care required to prevent damage to the porcelain restorations. You may benefit from having teeth straightened first, which may eliminate need for veneers, or make them last longer. Ck w an Orthodontist.

Veneers can be misused in certain situations and various options should be discussed. Some dentists overdrilling can lead to serious complications including premature tooth loss and nerve damage. If your teeth can be improved with less aggressive procedures they are worth considering. A dentist who doesn’t provide alternative services may not fully explain benefits of less profitable choices.
