A : A porcelain veneer is a thin restoration made to be bonded to the facial surface of the tooth. You do not actually replace a tooth with a veneer.. Replacement of a missing tooth can be done with an implant & crown, a bridge, or a removable partial denture. Veneers can change the shape and color of your tooth, and can effectively close spaces between your front teeth.

Porcelain : Porcelain veneers (or porcelain laminates) are a thin covering that is bonded to the front surface of a tooth. The material is made of porcelain so it is better than the normal bonded composite fillings as it does not stain or discolor and looke more natural than other materials. Porcelain veneers are generally used to cover dark, stained or mottled teeth and or change the contours of the teeth for a more pleasing and uniform smile to correct chips, rotations and crooked teeth. They do not "replace" teeth, merely change their appearance. The use of veneers is less invasive that trimming down the teeth for porcelain crowns, although they do have some limitations as compared to all porcelain crowns.

Not a replacement: Veneers replace a portion of the teeth in order to change the shape and/or color of the teeth. They are not as encompassing as a crown. The natural tooth still is present behind the veneer.

See answer: Porcelain veneers go over your teeth. They are not fake teeth, your real teeth are still under them, but they are not reversible as some of your tooth structure is removed to make room for the porcelain.
