Uvula: Hello. It sounds like you are describing the uvula. This structure is an extension of the soft palate and has a normal mucosa covering over muscle tissue. The uvula is thought to direct food and liquids down into the throat as we swallow and to prevent it from traveling back into the nasal cavity.
