A member asked:

Vag discharge.not pregnant , culture done, strep b . given penicillin, course done. not cleared up. could culture be wrong, wrong med or very bad infection?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Group B Strep: Your vaginal discharge is very unlikely to be due to the grp b strep. This organism is a colonizer, not a common cause of vaginal infection, and penicillin should only be used prophylactically to reduce the risk of infection in the infant at the time of delivery. Antibiotics will not eradicate this organism from the vagina. Your discharge is probably from another source. Good luck.
