Two weeks ago i was given penicillin for an ear infection and my tonsils were extremely swollen; i tested negative for strep type a. i finished my 10 days of medicine and my tonsils are still pretty large but no sore throat or fever. it's awkward to drink

Could be mono: It is possible to have mononucleosis. This is an EB viral infection. Often times group a strep and mono we'll go together. I suggest that you be tested for mononucleosis. The tonsils are still huge it may even be necessary for consult with a ENT physician.
