Can levofloxin be used to treat a strep throat infection? are there better choices? i am allergic to penicillin and tetracylinces.

Yes: Strep throat is due to a Gram positive bacteria. Levofloxin can treat that as well as many Gram negative bacteria. Since you are allergic to PCN and Tetracycline this is a logical choice.

DISAGREE STRONGLY: I would avoid using any quinolone unless there were absolutely no other choices. The potential for serious tendinopathy, which is not fully appreciated by many practitioners, as well as the developmemt of resistant flora is a more frequent and adverse occurrence than commonly acknowleged. FDA warnings for this drug and class of drugs have been steadily intensified. I 'd consider other options.

Yes : Levofloxin or levofloxacin is not the best choice due to it's side effects and is reserved for more serious infections.
