A member asked:

Is is true if i put a little amount of baking soda on toothpaste it will whiten my teeth and won't damage enamel?

Generally yes,: But baking soda is a bit abrasive. There are toothpastes with baking soda in them. Baking soda whitens by helping to remove stains.

No!: Baking soda is mildly abrasive and can wear away your teeth( unless it is part of arm and hammer toothpaste).. But more important baking soda has no 'oxidative' power to whiten teeth. Hope this helps !

Possibly, but:: Baking soda is a very mild abrasive powder--think of it as "sandpaper" for your teeth. Once removed, it's gone forever. As a whitener, it cannot oxidize the organic components of most tooth stain sources that form on the outer surface, but can help reduce amount by 'sanding' them away. If color is internal, baking soda won't touch it. See your dentist for further info.

No: Actually baking soda is an abrasive that might be used occasionally with tooth past to polish teeth , and not whiten them. As it does not have the ability to extract food and other staining products out of the pours of the teeth.

No: Get a professional whitening or a whitening kit from your dentist. Experiment and you may end up with some ugly cosmetic results. The dental materials are more predictable.
