How do i know if my childs foot is broken?

X-ray: If painful and swollen, there may be a break. Need x-ray to help determine. See podiatrist and have it evaluated. Sometimes other radiographic studies are needed.

Hard to say: A kid who chooses not to walk may have an issue with the foot, leg or hip. If there was obvious trauma with bruising at a particular site, localization is more defined. The non-verbal kid is harder to assess than others. His pcp can provide initial assessment and order x-rays of the appropriate site or sites. Further workup can be pursued based on initial exam and tests.

X-ray & Eval: See a physician for an evaluation and possible radiographs. Radiographs are simple and are a first line tool in determining the presence of a fracture.
