Unlikely: Patients may endorse neuropathic type symptoms when initiating or getting of this class of medication, known as ssris. Particularly, if a high dose is started without gradual titration or if a higher dose is stopped abruptly. I've seen it occur even in the setting of proper titration or weaning. This side effect is self limited and should resolve in its own. The time course is quite variable.

how does prozac (fluoxetine) reduce pain? helps with my back pain/my neuropathy in my foot. doesn't seem to help all pain (fibromyalgia = not as much help)

Chemicals: Prozac (fluoxetine) is approved for chronic headaches but otherwise lacks indication for chronic pain such as neuropathy. 
It may help improving the pain by improving underlying depression, even if it was subtle or undiagnosed. Improvements in depression are linked to heightened pain tolerance.

Unlikely: I would not expect Prozac (fluoxetine) to be of any benefit in the treatment of sciatica pain.

Lots of issues!!: Prozac (fluoxetine) has a long half-life so if you should not be withdrawing every day. Maybe you primary serotonin abnormality. Maybe a touch of mania? Hypomania?
Ssris do help with pain issues via the brain transmitters. Think flesh/tissue and not bone/ligament/disc w chronic pain! began selfcare with a wellness programs, vits, magnesium sleep hygiene, exercise massage, my fav is acupuncture/trigger pt. Inj.

Not Prozac (fluoxetine): Have your doctor evaluate why you have "nerve damage" and "swelling".  Prozac (fluoxetine) has many bad effects, and I do NOT use it in my practice, but your issues seem secondary to another cause.

i take 25 mg of elavil which took away my nerve pain. i hate get off of it as it works. however, my mind is not peaceful. i feel blah. should i go on another pill to help with my mind like prozac, triavil or etrafon?

: It is not advised to add another antidepressant to Elavil (Nortriptyline) due to the increased risk of Serotonin Syndrome, sedation, or confusion, esp at your age. A few options: (1) switch to Lyrica (recommended); (2) switch to Neurontin; or (3) reduce Elavil dose to 10 mg.

Side effects?: If that is the only side effect, you sound fortunate but it might still be good to consult your doctor or a psychotherapist. If your mom is a major part of your life, including her in a session could help you both understand to benefits and risks of Prozac (fluoxetine) ; other treatments which in your case includes more than one medical issue. NO,There is a : Potential interaction between Prozac (fluoxetine) and ultram .There is a risk of developing serotonin syndrome when the two medications are taken together. Serotonin syndrome can be serious and even life threatening. It is the result of high levels of serotonin in the body. Serotonin syndrome is characterized by having at least three of these listed symptoms: tremor, shivering, agitation, diaphoresis fever.

Can depends on cause: Neuropathy can be caused by a large number of underlying disease processes. Some causes may be transient, however most are not and cause symptoms long term. However, often with improvement of the underlying disease process such as diabetes or thyroid disease you can have improvement of the discomfort from neuropathy. Neuropathy has many great treatments for its painful component. Talk to your doc!
