No: No, many will not. Ct with kidney stone protocol is much more sensitive. Rarely, certain stones are not seen even with a ct.

Kidney Stones : A plain x-ray will only see kidney stones that have partially calcified; not all kidney stones, however, have calcium in them, so if you have typical symptoms - excruciating pain radiating into the groin, for example - you may well have a stone that is not calcified. Other tests can determine if you do. Follow up with your urologist.

i recently do sonography detects 2 kidney stones 5mm and 10mm respectively l, then i do ivp x ray but it shows all is normal report is normal.

Kidney stones: Sometimes kidney stones contain lower levels of calcium and are difficult to visualize on xrays but more easily seen on ultrasound.  Sometimes other structures like small blood vessels or benign fat containing tumors(angiomyolipoma) can be mistaken for stones on ultrasound.  A CT scan will sort this out definitively.

if it's bad enough to cause pain, wld myeloma be visible on plain xray (l spine)? or on ct to check for kidney stones. had both and both show normal.

Non necessarily: Fractures may not be always be visible on x rays in myeloma. Ct scan is probably best for kidney stones.

would a tumor caused from lymphoma, e.g. node, etc, show up on plain xray and ct?low back pn, clear l spine xray and ct to look for kidney stones, etc.

Not XR: A x-ray would not be particularly helpful, unless it's a large tumor. Ct would be much better, and should be able to pick up enlarged lymph nodes. Watch out for contrast though. Kidney stone cts are done without IV contrast, but you will need contrast to look for tumor (at least much better at it). Talk to your doctor to make sure whether you are doing it with or without contrast.

Best test for: Bladder cancer is cystoscopy.

i am suffering from a uti, and 3mm kidney stone that's in my left kidney.platelet count is 527k. hematuria is present. pee test shows pos for uti, xray showed kidney stone. would elevated ast (78) & alt (101) be caused by the uti? ?

: To diagnose UTI you need a positive urine culture. The platelet count and the AST &amp;Alt are not related to it. So pl make sure that test(urine C&amp;S) was done. In the meantime drink plenty of water and if symptoms persist pl see a Urologist.

cbc shows high wbc nothing else. pain that moves around my back (upper/lower/waistline) no kidney stones on xray. doc says diverticulitis but no symptoms like that. i just had breast cancer/mastectomy 1 yr ago and i'm scared. what could this be?

High wbc ?'s: Increased white blood cell count is a sign of acute infection/inflammation.  The migration of the pain above and below the waist usually is caused by inflammatory bowel disease. Ask for a GI physician referral for the diagnosis.

CT scan is better: Ct scan is now preferred test for kidney stones. Radio opaque stone can be seen on kub is the stone is big enough for x ray; ct can detect smaller ones. 
Ivp rarely being used.

pink urine and minor irritation in 34 year old male cumadin patient with history of kidney stones. x-ray shows one kidney larger . scared any answer?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily bad: Will need evaluation to locate the source of bleeding.  Could be kidney stone, but there are many other possibilities.  Kidneys are often different in size and this may not be related at all. See the doc who ordered your studies.
