Kidney stones: Sometimes kidney stones contain lower levels of calcium and are difficult to visualize on xrays but more easily seen on ultrasound. Sometimes other structures like small blood vessels or benign fat containing tumors(angiomyolipoma) can be mistaken for stones on ultrasound. A CT scan will sort this out definitively.
