i have alcohol use disorder and am now recently sober. blood tests from 2 weeks ago with ast 135, alt 175. laboratory uln was 33. bilirubin was a bit low. mcv a bit high. i know i had fatty liver. does this indicate cirrhosis?

: The gold standard for the diagnosis of cirrhosis is a liver biopsy. You must totally abstain from alcohol &amp; should be evaluated, advised and followed by a hepatologist or gastroenterologist. In my opinion, the findings do suggest alcoholic liver disease more than fatty liver.

#1 is Blood test: I'm really not sure what is meant by "personalized medicine" (i guess i thought all medicine was personalized!) but the tests that are needed for possible cirrhosis are blood tests to check the function of the liver and typically a sonogram to see the size and texture.  If indicated, a liver biopsy may even be required to confirm the diagnosis or determine the type of cirrhosis.

Family practice: It is recommended to follow the liver enzyme panel which is a blood test. If any elevation of them occurs it needs to be stopped. It could cause cirrhosis.

Both; Gi can biopsy: Either can do the history, physical, appropriate blood tests, and order supporting imaging studies, like sonograms. Gi docs are trained to do liver biopsies (so can interventional radiologists, but they generally get smaller bits of tissue) when needed to diagnose and stage the disease.

These : These lab results are consistent with your condition, and indicate an advanced disease process. You need to be followed closely by your doctor. If you have abdominal pain, yellowing of the skin, vomiting blood, etc. Present to the er at once. Otherwise continue to follow up with your doctor and avoid alcohol, fatty foods, and foods with high salt content. Also avoid tylenol (acetaminophen) and advil.

can taking 65 mg iron supplements for 3.5 weeks cause cirrhosis of the liver? gallbladder issues? ct scan in march showed normal healthy liver. blood tests all came back normal except a/g ratio was 2.4. albumin was 4.8 which is normal for me?

: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, your iron intake will not cause cirrhosis . Wish you good health!

just say for instance when pertaining to liver problems the inr will only elevate when cirrhosis has occurred right?and if inr is elevated due to liver problems other liver functions test will also be abnormal at that time right?

: The INR is a test of clotting factor activity. Clotting factors are short lived (hours) proteins made in the liver. Damage to the tissues involved in their production can interfere with production to some degree before actual cirrhosis is considered a proper diagnosis
