Generally speaking..: I would recommend a Board-certified Internal Medicine physician (but I guess I'm biased). Internal Medicine deals with all of the diseases of adults. Age-appropriate screens for a gentleman of 52 yrs would include: annual physical exam, cholesterol screening every 2 years, Tetanus booster every 10 yrs, flu shot yearly, and discussion about prostate checking as well as colon cancer screening.

Follow advice: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, your doctor's advice is correct and you should follow it.

45 years, male. had my annual physical. urine analysis revealed 0-2 hpf rbc in the urine and had urine occult blood as small. the primary care doctor said its normal and not a concern. do i need to see a urologist for further investigation?

: 0-2 RBCs /hpf with microscopic exam is within normal limit and positive by dipstick test for small occult blood is commonly observed due to chemical reaction rather than due to true hematuria. I would not have it repeated unless this person has some urinary symptoms. Definitely, there is no need for a urology consultation but if you are too concerned, a repeat urinalysis can be done in 2 weeks.

Diabetes check : Yes, you can buy a glucose meter. Check your sugar at home. I sure you can go to Kings Plaza mall in Brooklyn and get one ( stay away from the cookie store at the bottom of the elevator)  If your sugar is greater than 125 in the morning before eating you probably have diabetes.

Primary care physici: Look for a good primary care physician. Maybe he doesn't know the answer but he can gather data and direct you to the right specialist.

You should also see a gynecologist regularly for an exam and pap smear.  They may need to do this every 1, 2 or 3 years depending on your health and family history.
