I am a 49 yr old female who hasnt been to doctor in over 18 months. what type dr should i see now & what tests/exams.... i have had no previous medical problems. had annual well woman visits but feel i need to start taking better care of myself.

You : You should see an internal medicine doctor or a family practitioner yearly for a physical and any screening tests recommended for your age group and your specific health and family history. You should also see a gynecologist regularly for an exam and pap smear. They may need to do this every 1, 2 or 3 years depending on your health and family history. Primary care: Either internist or family practice. Based on previous exams he or she will help you catch up with recommended screening and immunizations. The most important part would be that your PCP will be able to coordinate with other specialists and inpatient facilities to insure continuity of care.
